It may happen that you need to pull over your car or bike on the road while driving. It may be due to many reasons, a few of them being, a faulty engine or flat tire, pulled over by traffic police, or met with a minor accident with another car or bike.
How to pull over a Car?
- Signal your intention to pull over by turning on the appropriate turn signal as per your country’s norms
- Check your mirrors and blind spots to make sure it is safe to pull over.
- Slowly slow down and move to the right or left lane depending on which country you are driving. In India, it is the left lane always as the vehicles are right-hand drive.
- Never take a steep left or right turn while driving the car as it will cause major accidents on the road.
- Once you are in the correct lane, pull over to the shoulder of the road.
- Come to a complete stop and turn off your engine.
- Put on your hazard lights to avoid accidents.
How to pull over a Bike?
- Signal your intention to pull over by extending your left or right arm depending on your country’s norms and pointing the hand down.
- Look behind you and make sure it is safe to pull over.
- Slow down and move to the appropriate side of the road.
- Come to a complete stop and dismount your bike.
- Lock your bike and put it out of the way of traffic.
- Never take a steep left or right turn while on the bike as it will cause major accidents on the road.
Here are some additional tips for beginner drivers
- Always pull over to a safe location. This means pulling over in a well-lit area, away from traffic.
- Be aware of your surroundings. When you pull over, be on the lookout for other drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.
- Don’t pull over if you are feeling drowsy or impaired. If you need to pull over, find a safe place to pull over and rest.
- If you are pulled over by the police, stay calm and cooperate with the officer.
