Main Color Types

The car color can be divided into two main categories ie. Metallic and Non-Metallic.

Metallic Color

These colors are manufactured as a mix of pigments along with aluminum. The metal flakes which are used in metallic, reflect more light than the conventional color paint. Metallic colors would cost you slightly more, are long-lasting, and give a glossy look to your car.

Non-Metallic Color

These are normal paint colors. Usually, car companies choose white and red to be non-metallic colors. You will always see a price difference if you go for non-metallic colors. It may cost you slightly less compared to metallic color.

Check out this elaborative explanation on Quora which explains the difference between these two color types in detail.

Now, Let’s discuss the actual colors. Let us divide them into two segments ie. light colors and dark colors. It becomes easier to put a final finger on your choice this way.

Light Colors (White, Silver, Light blue etc.)

  • Can be easily mistaken with taxi color in some big cities in India like Bengaluru, Pune etc. where the taxis are usually white and silver colored.
  • May not look good on every car model where as few cars really look simply awesome in white for example – Hyundai Creta, VW Polo but at the same time, it might not look good on cars like Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i10.

Dark colors (Black, Blue, RED etc.)

  • Separates your car from crowd, e.g. Black is deemed to depict a status symbol, Red as speed car etc..

Cons

  • Not very easy to maintain, minor scratches and dirt are highly visible.
  • May not be safe colors to drive in night. Highly recommended for expert drivers.
